CodeLance newsletter November 2003
Dear CodeLance member,
Welcome to the November newsletter! This issue beings BIG news of a new website launched by the CodeLance team, some GREAT news about a special offer on secondary projects and an IMPORTANT tip for developers to help them keep up to date with new projects.
IMAGELANCE.COM, OUR NEW SITE FOR DESIGN AND MARKETING PROJECTS
ImageLance (http://www.imagelance.com) is an online marketplace for freelance design and marketing professionals. It works in exactly the same way as CodeLance, with freelancers bidding on projects, and the way the site works should be familiar to all CodeLance members (note, however, that your CodeLance account/username will not work at ImageLance, you will need to sign up again). The scope of the design and marketing services to be offered through the site is fairly large. Here's the list:
- Website design
- Web graphics/Clip art
- Web animation/Flash
- Logo design
- Banner ad design
- HTML email design
- Internet marketing/Website promotion
- Search engine optimization
- Business card design
- Invitation design
- Brochure design
- Illustration/Cartoons
- Photography/Photo retouching
- Audio & video
- Stationery/Letterhead design
- Corporate identity package
- CAD
If you or your company offer any of the above services or you have a project in need of any these services please pay the site a visit at http://www.imagelance.com
SECONDARY PROJECTS SPECIAL OFFER!
Next month is traditionally a time for giving gifts so that's exactly what we're going to do here at CodeLance! For the two week period between the 8th and 21st of December we're lifting the minimum budget/bid limit on secondary projects.
The current limit is $200 but between the above dates there will be no restriction whatsoever, in other words project buyers can place a secondary project for any value from 1 dollar upwards (of course you may still specify a minimum budget if you wish). If you're a buyer with a small project then this special offer is for YOU! Note: the usual secondary project restriction on the disclosure of contact details during the bidding process will remain in effect.
DEVELOPERS, PLEASE READ!
When a new project is posted at CodeLance all developers who have relevant expertise are notified by email so that they can consider placing a bid (this happens for both primary and secondary projects). However, sometimes a buyer wants to use a programming language not listed or is unsure as to the best language to use for a project and puts a tick in the "Other/Programmer suggests" box. If you're a developer and you want to be notified of projects where this is the case you must make sure that your account is set up appropriately. To check, just log in to your account management area, click on the "EDIT INFO" link then make sure that the box next to "Other/Programmer suggests" in the "Area of Expertise" section is ticked.
That's about it for this month except to say that over the past few weeks there has been a definite improvement in the quality of information given in bids, which is great. Remember, if you're a developer and the information you supply when placing a bid is along the lines of "Choose me, I'm the best!" this is unlikely to impress the project buyer. A few lines describing your technical background and approach to the project's requirements is much more useful to the buyer and increases your chances of being awarded the project. As always, though, please remember that the disclosure of any form of contact information is strictly prohibited during the bidding process of secondary projects and that it is only allowed in private message board posts or internal emails (i.e. via the "Send Message" link on your account management homepage) during primary projects. Contact information, incuding links to previous work, is NEVER allowed in project descriptions or bids whatever the project type.
Kind regards,
Rod Morris
